In response to the tremendous support voters across the nation have voiced for the Arizona immigration bill, and after the embarrassments of top administration officials refusing to either read or enforce the law, Barack Obama has now ordered 1200 National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexican border. And what happens next should be very interesting...
After all, the president has repeatedly said that any "visitors" backpacking across the desert shouldn't have to prove their citizenship. He's additionally made it clear that no one can be stopped based on the fact that they "look Mexican." And no part of the law can be enforced in such a way that there's even the "potential for abuse."
All of which makes us wonder...once the troops arrive at the border under Obama's direction, in which direction will they be pointing their guns?
UPDATE: The State Department has issued an official clarification that the 1200 National Guard troops will have nothing whatsoever to do with enforcement of immigration laws, and will do nothing to impede illegal aliens. Presumably, then, the troops are being put in place because the Mexican drug cartels are "tired of just shooting at tin cans" with their automatic weapons when crossing the border.
